THE NEW MULTI-PURPOSE ARENA: PART 3

The third of ROSSETTI’s Multi-Purpose Arena blog series offering design guidelines to help universities create value through right-sized, affordable facilities.

DONOR CONTRIBUTIONS: CREATING A LASTING LEGACY

It is never too early to consider the impact of donor recognition and opportunities to support the university’s fundraising efforts. A donor’s contribution must be meaningful to them and their story, as well as integral to the design of the building. These contributions vary widely from overall building entitlement to new amenities to legacy exhibits.

Even at the beginning of the arena’s conceptual design, ROSSETTI tracks opportunities in plan, 3D vignettes and spreadsheets indicating potential value for specific experiences. Careful consideration for visual exposure and design integration is key. Less visibility results in less value. Construction value of components must be considered when deciding whether donorship is appropriate. Advancements in AV technology also allow messaging and donor stories to be more dynamic and flexible. Our In-house signage and environmental graphic design staff are a critical component of our process and allow us to begin the design process concurrent with architecture.

Most universities must do some fundraising to secure the entire budget. We work extensively with universities to create dynamic materials that communicate the excitement, project understanding and vision for the plans and projects. Tools to accomplish this include:

  • Photo realistic renderings displaying design of donor specific amenities and recognition
  • Animation/videos
  • AR/VR walk throughs
  • Mock ups (locker naming, signage, etc.)
  • Floor plans as a road map for donor opportunities keyed to a spreadsheet with target values
