The World Center of Racing is hallowed ground to NASCAR fans, but at 50 years old the venue required a new value proposition that lived up to its larger-than-life reputation. The design solution created the first motor sports stadium by compressing spectators higher and closer to the finish line along the entire 101,000-seat stadium. To create excitement at the approach, five new entry ‘injectors’ integrate corporate partnership and racing culture with fan experience. Neighborhoods throughout the four distinct concourses elevate guests above the ground and closer to the action. Envisioned as a stock car exploding around the track, the stadium is clad in metal ribbons that stretch from one end to the other. The ribbons transform at the finish line from smooth, curving lines to a dynamic staccato pattern that represents the energy on the track.
