The USTA is undertaking the most ambitious transformation in US Open history: an integrated vision that redefines the National Tennis Center through the lens of innovation, hospitality, and performance. At the heart of this evolution are two flagship projects: a bold renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium, the tournament’s iconic centerpiece, and the creation of a new, state-of-the-art Player Performance Center. Continuing a decades-long partnership with the USTA, ROSSETTI is leading the design for both initiatives, leveraging deep expertise in sports architecture to elevate the experience for guests, athletes, and partners alike. Together, these projects capture the vitality of New York City while reaffirming the US Open’s authentic status as the premier entertainment spectacle in the global sport.
A 2021 Return on Design™ (ROD™) analysis provided the foundation for the Arthur Ashe Stadium upgrades, evaluating the existing hospitality mix and identifying opportunities for revenue growth, operational efficiency, and an improved guest journey. The design introduces a new suite level, expanded courtside seating, and a range of new club and loge options, collectively projected to increase annual revenue significantly. Every design decision draws from the US Open’s authentic Grand Slam identity and the dynamic urban rhythm of New York. A new grand entrance, developed with Studio Libeskind, will enhance the stadium’s architectural presence and vertical circulation. Expanded concourses, refined amenities, and a reimagined premium experience will deliver a bold, immersive environment that matches the energy of the tournament.
The adjacent Player Performance Center redefines athlete care with an integrated, wellness-focused facility that supports both the intensity of competition and the need for recovery. Occupying the top two floors of a new four-story building, the center will feature expansive indoor and outdoor fitness zones, redesigned locker rooms, lounges, and spa-inspired recovery spaces. Thoughtful amenities, such as a private café, open-air courtyard, and a restorative solitude chamber, offer players moments of calm within the excitement of the event. A dedicated athlete entry creates a sense of arrival, while tactile materials and a minimal aesthetic transition into more intimate, warm environments as players move deeper into the space. Throughout, the architectural language expresses the US Open brand through signature blue hues, stainless steel finishes, and a clean, contemporary sensibility.
Construction for both projects will be delivered in coordinated phases to ensure uninterrupted tournament operations through 2025 and 2026. Arthur Ashe Stadium’s renovation will unfold in three stages: foundational structural work, reconfiguration of seating and suite levels, and the debut of the new entrance, concourses, and hospitality lounges by the 2027 US Open. The Player Performance Center will also be completed in time for the 2027 tournament, fully integrated into the campus and ready to serve the next generation of elite athletes. These transformative upgrades reinforce the US Open’s legacy as a global leader in sports and entertainment, while continuing to provide local economic impact.
