ROSSETTI’s proposed master plan for the 100-acre site that hosted the 1988 Summer Olympic Games honors the site’s legacy while shaping a new era of global recognition in business, sports, and community. Focusing on the need to connect the internalized, event-based sports campus to the surrounding community, ROSSETTI’s master plan proposes an intersecting sports and business program so that their functions engage, rather than isolate, one another.
A renovated Jamsil Olympic Stadium is maintained as the centerpiece of the site, surrounded by a number of public plazas for gathering, dining, and celebrating this important monument in the city’s history. The site is accessible from all directions, and getting around the site is improved by encouraging all modes of transportation. The design embraces the waterfront by bringing recreation, dining options, and retail uses toward the river, while maximizing views of this natural asset.
