At the heart of Qiddiya’s ambition to become a global destination for entertainment, sports, and culture, the Aquatics Centre serves as a beacon for wellness, competition, and discovery. Positioned at the apex of the Tuwaiq escarpment, the Centre’s design embodies the flow and energy of water returning to the desert, a powerful symbol of renewal and vitality. More than a venue, it is envisioned as a transformative environment where Saudis and visitors alike can engage with aquatics at every level—from casual recreation to world-class Olympic competition. Its sweeping roof, carved forms, and integration with the dramatic desert landscape create a singular architectural identity that reflects Qiddiya’s role in advancing the aspirations of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
The design of the Aquatics Centre draws on parametric modeling to capture natural patterns, weaving together rooflines, facades, and interiors in a fluid harmony of glass, stone, and shimmering metal. This dynamic geometry creates an immersive experience where light, air, and water converge to heighten athletic performance and guest well-being. Sustainability strategies are integral to the project, including displacement ventilation, passive solar shading, thermal load shifting, and onsite greywater recovery, all tailored to the region’s climate. Together, these innovations demonstrate responsible environmental stewardship while enhancing comfort and efficiency. As a result, the Aquatics Centre not only celebrates the beauty and motion of water but also advances the objectives of Vision 2030: to foster walkability, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage discovery, and create lasting memories for the Saudi people and their guests.
