Training facilities at Orange Coast College were spread over a hodgepodge of buildings and were under-utilized by students. The buildings fragmented the athletic department and inhibited recruiting new student-athletes to the college. The 49,000 SF fitness complex is designed to be a multi-purpose facility that serves a variety of athletic programs, as well as the community. The two-story building includes a large gymnasium that hosts men's and women's basketball games, as well as sports education classes. It also holds an equipment room, 6,000 SF strength lab, a 2,600 cardio lab, an excersice science testing lab, and classrooms. The complex is an instant landmark, both on campus and for its visibility to the adjacent community. Construction costs were minimized by phasing the project into multiple packages.
