76ers Fieldhouse

The 76ers Fieldhouse is a 140,000-square-foot, multi-purpose sports complex and youth training center in Wilmington and the new home for the 76ers NBA G League affiliate team, the Delaware Blue Coats. The sports complex is designed to be the premier center for youth sports in Delaware, providing thousands of youth new sports programming opportunities. The 2,500-seat recreation center houses three basketball courts, two full-size soccer fields, retail, office space, and a number of medical amenities.

The plan creates an athletic thoroughfare that becomes the nexus of all the building tenants and is anchored by a ‘social’ platform stair. Flexible spaces, including retractable stadia, are programmed for a variety of activities and sports and are easily reconfigured for the type of activity, sport and number of guests. Multiple spaces can also be connected or closed off using garage doors.

The pre-engineered building system is wrapped by a cleverly customized envelope on the exterior and exuberant punches of color on the interior.

Natural daylight plays a large role in the design of the complex to foster athlete health, wellness and sustainability. Clad completely in translucent panels, the arena portion of the building allows diffused daylight to illuminate the court and seating. By night, the panels, become a jewel box and lantern bringing the 76ers brand to the community. The fieldhouse has become a catalyst to activate the surrounding area.
