MSU Hosts Munn Ice Arena Expansion Groundbreaking

EAST LANSING – Michigan State University hosted formal a groundbreaking event for the Munn Ice Arena Expansion project on Saturday, Sept. 7. MSU president Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, Trustee Melanie Foster, athletics director Bill Beekman and head coach Danton Cole were among the featured speakers at Saturday's event. Men's basketball coach Tom Izzo, who pledged $1.1 million to support the project, also spoke at the event that included over 400 guests.
"To get all these people here, including three of our Frozen Four teams, and all the donors – it's a great day and it's exciting for all of us," Cole said. "This is a transformational project for the University and our program."
The Munn Ice Arena Expansion project will provide new areas to benefit student-athletes, including a locker room, state-of-the-art weight room and training areas, hydrotherapy pools, shooting bays, and a players' lounge.  Additionally, new offices for coaches and staff will be moved above ground, and an expanded concourse will connect a Hall of Honor highlighting individual and team accomplishments to an enhanced pro/apparel shop.
The Board of Trustees authorized the construction of the Munn Expansion on June 21 and construction commenced in mid-July. The project is scheduled to be completed next fall.
