design of leed silver arena boosts D1 hockey recruitment
With a nationally ranked men’s hockey team and a strong local fan base, UND sought an arena that would better accommodate players, promote the Fighting Irish hockey program and involve the community. ROSSETTI designed a “cathedral for hockey,” using the university’s strong brand and gothic architectural vernacular to weave tradition throughout the state-of-the-art 5,000-seat facility. Players experience professional-level facilities including shooting stations, a stick prep room and a weight training room. The ice arena also features a secondary ice sheet for community programming. Located at the entry of the school’s athletic campus, the flexible design allows for a variety of events beyond ice activities, such as convocations, other sports competitions and concerts. The Compton Family Ice Arena is certified LEED Silver.
