University of Michigan Yost Arena

Renovation Transforms Historic Arena

This $16 million renovation was phased over a several year period to focus on specific areas of upgrades, including seating and hospitality, concourse and concessions, and structural and ice plant. The most dramatic facelift involved removing decades-old coverings on the original arched window openings. It transformed this dark ice hockey barn into a bright, modern arena while retaining its historic charm.

To add much needed premium seating, the design team created 16 Champions Boxes from former offices as well as the arena’s East Club. The unique “Ice Box” is a corner platform used for corporate entertaining or can be sold with four tops. The University’s famous maize and blue colors are prominently used with bold environmental graphics throughout the arena.
