LEBRETON FLATS MASTER PLAN

VISION TRANSFORMS OTTAWA INTO INTERNATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION

This competitive proposal is for 47 acres of prime vacant downtown riverfront real estate with the intent of introducing a vibrant new neighborhood anchored by a new 18,000-seat NHL arena for the Ottawa Senators. ROSSETTI led a multidisciplinary team of 22 firms to create an ambitious sports and civic plan, while working within the context of development partners and a large stakeholder group. The $3.5 billion commercial plan seeks to substantially grow the urban core, reviving a long dormant yet keystone district, and generating a more sustainable, accessible, transit-oriented and inclusive urban environment.

Planning included the introduction of a new street grid, development analysis, microclimate analysis, preservation strategies, reconciliation of existing light rail transit line through the site, and the sensitive deployment of architecture with respect to context, solar access, views, and a celebrated and vibrant public realm. This multi-layered and interconnected network of architecture, infrastructure, places, public realms and activation seeks to create a new model of urban development. Additionally, it plans to satisfy some of the most rigorous environmental sustainability standards developed to date.
