Calgary Flames Reveal Design for Sports Anchored Development

ROSSETTI has been working with the Flames to develop a master plan for a new entertainment district in downtown Calgary. These efforts align with the City of Calgary’s vision of a broader “integrated urban mobility” for the central core of the city. ROSSETTI’s fresh arena bowl concept will create an entirely new fan experience without sacrificing sightlines.

CalgaryNEXT will be the globally recognized centrepiece of a revitalized West Village. It will enable the completion of our urban core and transform how Calgarians live, work and play.

CalgaryNEXT will create a thriving and active community we all can enjoy. For more than a decade Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) has had a vision for Calgary—a place where all Calgarians can unite in active living, sports and entertainment—a centre for the community and destination for world class events.

Multisport Fieldhouse

CalgaryNEXT Multisport Fieldhouse Stadium will feature state-of-the-art sports and world-class athletic training facilities. It will be the anchor for a thriving field sport community and with the arena event centre will be the catalyst for new economic growth on the western edge of Calgary’s urban core.

Calgary’s first Multisport Fieldhouse Stadium will be a multi-functional space, giving Calgarians access to year-round, state-of-the-art field sport and fitness facilities.

The multisport field centre will house a FIFA regulation pitch and a CFL regulation football field in a single configurable space. We will be able to host a major soccer match in the morning and turn over the space for football for Stampeders in the afternoon.

At the same time, court sports such as basketball, volleyball and badminton can by played. Beyond soccer and football uses, track and field, training and events will occupy the main field zone.

Fitness enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of multi-purpose exercise rooms and strength and conditioning facilities. Calgary runners can enjoy an indoor, 9-lane, 400-metre running track.

Arena Event Centre

CalgaryNEXT will include an innovatively designed arena event centre. A place that will host professional ice and sporting events and also increase capacity for amateur athletes, premium events, concerts and conferences.

The space will have seating for 18,000 fans for hockey games and 20,000+ for concerts and other events. It will be able to host large conferences and provide flexible spaces for everything from annual shareholder meetings to conventions with break-out spaces.

The event centre will be a community gathering place for sports and events, as well as unique public spaces and food and beverage options.
