Detroit is one step closer to its fifth pro sports franchise. Billionaire businessmen and pro basketball team owners, Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores formally submitted their joint application to Major League Soccer on Tuesday for an expansion team that could be awarded for Detroit later this year.
The development, designed by ROSSETTI and proposed by Rock Ventures and Platinum Equity, will mark the main entry point to downtown Detroit, forming a welcoming gateway to the city at the intersection of I-375 and Gratiot. The site is currently an unfinished jail site owned by Wayne County. ROSSETTI’s portfolio includes five Major League Soccer (MLS) stadiums – more than any other architecture firm in the world.
Dan Gilbert and partners are proposing a $1-billion investment at Wayne County's unfinished jail site for a 25,000-seat Major League Soccer stadium and other developments, including restaurants, hotel rooms, and a commercial office tower.
The ROSSETTI discover, dare, deliver approach transforms design ideas from unthinkable to reality. We work with our partner clients on projects ranging from stadium design and mixed-use developments to hospitality and workplace. Family-owned for 50 years, ROSSETTI is an architecture firm of 100 talented team members headquartered in the heart of downtown Detroit.
